Few forms of life offer as many variations as SEASHELLS. They have influenced many facets of our lives from antiquity to the present. Shells appear in religion, history, mythology, poetry, songs, architecture, art, photography, coins, stamps, jewelry, clothing, heraldry and furniture. Shelled marine creatures have not only been a source of beauty for mankind, they have also been an important food source throughout the ages and as such are worthy of our continuing respect, understanding and further study.
The Jersey Cape Shell Club is a friendly organization for shell enthusiasts at all levels of interest and expertise. The goals of the club are to promote conservation and ecology, provide educational programs for club members and the community, identify shells found on local beaches, share and generate interest in the appreciation of shells, sponsor shell-related field trips, distribute shell information through the club newsletter and website, and make new friends with a common interest!
The club season hosts interesting meetings with knowledgeable speakers and wonderful photography, social events and activities during May through October of each year concluding with a Holiday Luncheon in December.
The club's mission is to explore the study, conservation, history, and science of seashells, mollusks, and other marine life. Members & speakers assist with and encourage shell-related interests of collecting, exhibiting, and crafting with shells.
Meetings - The first Wednesday of the months May through October at the Wetlands Institute - speakers help to educate members and the public about local and around the world marine life and shells. All are welcome.
Crafts - Creation of shell craft for sale help to fund the club activities.
Shell Show - The highlight of the season is the annual Shell Show of judged scientific and artistic exhibits including shells from around the world. Shell crafts and specimen shells are for sale.
